A Coral Daydream – Seoul

A Coral Daydream – Seoul

IMG_5191.jpgFour months has flown by since I landed at Incheon Intl. Airport, filled with anticipation, anxiety, and excitement, and now it’s time to say goodbye to another summer in Seoul.Internships, friendships, and family time filled my 22nd summer and it will be the summer that will stick with me for a long time. Precious memories have been engrained in me and every corner breathes a new air.

With my 3-month internship over, I finally had time to go on a lunch date with Cherlyn who I haven’t seen for a while. We were both busy with work but I couldn’t leave Korea without seeing her.

We decided to try out a new healthy restaurant that opened up in Chungdam called Sun the Bud. Their menu is full of delicious healthy dishes that are vegetarian and vegan friendly. You can also make your own salad with fresh ingredients to your liking.

IMG_5014.jpgIMG_5018.jpgIMG_5031.jpgIMG_5045.jpg

The overall atmosphere is very modern, clean-cut and classic. Having just opened in the central fashion district in Seoul, it is full of fashionable and chic Seoulites.

I ordered a classic bibimbap with soy-sauce chicken which was basically a brown rice bowl mixed with seasoned vegetables with Korean red pepper paste on the side. It was a pleasant surprise to say the least – the vegetables were incredibly fresh and well-seasoned and the chicken was cooked just right.

Since it was such a beautiful day out in Seoul, Cherlyn and I decided to wander over to Dosan Park in a hunt for a new café that we can try out.

Dosan Park is a beautiful place in the middle of city for anyone looking for a quiet escape and a taste of nature. I always find myself coming back to this little gem of a place when I need a breathe of fresh air. Seoul can be a hectic city with non-strop stimulation and sometimes all you need is a little stroll.

We stumbled upon a brand new cafe called 8D that opened up in July just across the park. The architecture and ambiance was breathtaking – the bright sunlight coming through the tall windows to reflect the concrete walls and floors made it seem like we were in a European art museum.

Sunny Side Up!

Sunny Side Up!

I am back in my beautiful home city and currently in the process of fully embracing the blissful sunshine, precious family time and long-awaited reunions with people I love. As it turns out again – dejé mi corazon en Seúl 😉

one of the things I looked forward to when coming back to Seoul was its beautiful alleyways with so many hidden gems in store for any curious explorer – small but crowded restaurants, bustling bars, quiet coffeehouses and unique boutiques. Seoul is honestly a treasure box that you can find anything you want in – food, beauty, fashion, drinks, you name it!

This Thursday afternoon I met up with Tiffany – she’s such a kind, loving and wonderful person that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for years (back to the ‘hakwon’ days). We decided to go to Jang-Comma (장꼬마), a korean restaruant specialising in home-made meals. It is located in a steep side alleyway off Jang Jin Woo St. in Gyungridan-Gil (경리단길).

I ordered the cod roe and butter rice topped with sunny side egg and Tiffany opted for their grilled fish dish – all served with ban-chan (korean side-dishes) and warm soup.

After our lovely lunch we explored the corners and streets of Gyenogridan-Gil until we chose a café called Right Before. It’s hidden in the side street but if you look close enough, you will be able to see its green signs and adorable interior design. Since the weather was so nice, we decided to sit on the terrace and refresh ourselves with drinks. Also – they had a hammock.. need I say more?

If you are ever in the neighbourhood, give these two places a sneak peak! I definitely recommend Jangkkoma if you are new to Korean food and Seoul. It will give you a nice taste of what Koreans normally eat and what kind of flavours go into our cuisine. There are so many cafes and cute little shops in the area, so definitely spare out a chunk of your day to be spent here! I hope you enjoyed coming on with us on our Thursday date and stay tuned for more!

City of Dreams

City of Dreams

New York City

New York City has always been a place of wonder and fantasy for me – its busy streets, bustling restaurants, endless opportunities and its indisputable status as the epicentre of global business and fashion drew me to the city like no other.

Countless daydreams in my teenage years were consumed by a grown-up Eujena lounging at a coffee shop off at Soho, grabbing brunch at West Village (poached eggs and toast, always), working at an office in Manhattan until Midnight and then grabbing a Whiskey sour (or two) at a hip bar with friends

For some reason, though, I felt like an insurmountable distance separated the city and me. And that needed to change. I longed to be connected to the city, breathing, living its every corner – taking in all it has to offer. Spring break gave me the perfect opportunity to go back to the States and meet my sister in my dream city. It was a week filled with unforgettable memories, good vibes, lots of laugher (and some tears), and amazing food! Follow me along to the city of big dreams…

My trip to NYC would not be complete without good coffee and bottomless brunch. My sister took me to La Colombe in Chelsea before we hit the galleries. The coffee was frankly not as good as I expected it to be but perhaps I had too high of an expectation. The interior and the staff, however, of the Chelsea location however are amazing to say the least.

My sister and I rarely eat breakfast on vacations and so we take brunch business seriously. I had been eyeing Bluestone Lane through social media for a while and was so excited to finally try it out. We were lucky to be bale to grab a big marble table by the counter without a wait.

IMG_6900IMG_6205IMG_6203

I ordered a green skillet with mushrooms, kale, tomato and eggs with their gluten free toast. It was warm, hearty and delicious! The coffee was strong and smooth – just the way I like it. It might be too strong for some people (aka Jean) so make sure to order hot water on the side if you are new or sensitive to caffeine.

Rendezvous à Paris

Rendezvous à Paris

I wish that I could write this post in French but the only phrases I know how to say in French are “bonjour” and “Je m’appelle Eujena.” It’s one of my goals to learn french during my 20s but with all the things I want to do, we’ll see how that one goes.

Anyhow those who know me know that I am an impulsive traveller. I rarely travel when I am in school but when I do, it’s often unplanned and very very last minute. So as they say, old habits never die and I found myself booking an airbnb, a plane ticket and messaging my friends in Paris that I will be coming to their beautiful city. Why Paris? I don’t know. I really don’t. But why not Paris? You know what they say, “Paris is always a good idea.”

My first night in Paris (red wine + risotto with pork and asparagus)

after dinner I attempted to work on my essay but  before I knew it, I was sound asleep…

After 10 hrs of sweet sleep and a morning coffee, I was ready for my full day in Paris. Of course, I had to head to Rue Saint Honoré before all else. The street was where I stayed on my first visit to Paris and it will always have a special place in my heart. The atmosphere is mesmerising, I always feel like I am in an ulterior universe. The cafes, restaurants, boutiques and even small grocery shops… it’s my paradise on Earth

img_2055img_2099img_2100

I came back to my airbnb before heading off to see my Parisienne friends and this is basically what happened…

Before I move on, can we just admire the new Dior Lady bag? Classics are classics and this one will forever be one of my favourites. (Plus, red is one of my favourite colours)

after a short break, I headed back to Rue Saint Honoré and met up with Yazmin. She’s an absolute beauty both inside and out and I could not have wished for a better company.

img_2202

img_2170img_2171

After thoroughly enjoying my coffee date with Yazmin, I headed west to meet up with Thomas, Gabriel and Chloé. I met these three gems last year in St Andrews during their year abroad and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that they were the highlights of my 2nd semester. Seeing them in Paris again was amazing and I can’t wait to see them again.

img_2254-2

IMG_2184.jpg

Thinking back at the three days in Paris and looking through these photos feel so surreal, almost as if the whole trip was just a long dream. That’s what Paris will do to you. I have fallen in love with the city yet again (I’m sorry Madrid) and I am already daydreaming about walking down Rue Saint Honoré… But back to reality for now!

I just have to say.. Paris, je t’aime img_2155

Tell me.. what’s your favourite European city?

Waking up to a view like this…

We woke up bright and early the next morning and of course, we had to find our coffee fix

IMG_0168

The rest of the day was spent at the Paradise Hotel Poolside and theBay 101 – a famous spot for its breathtaking night view of the city and variety of food/dessert and drinks.

IMG_0230

Of course, this was NOT the end of our night. You can’t say you went to Busan without at least trying out their clubs. Seoul is always my favorite city to part in but Busan did not disappoint. It was perhaps one of the best nights of my summer. We lucked out that the newest club was located on B1 of our hotel. Flux Busan surprised me with their sophisticated and modern interior and excellent music selection. I definitely recommend this place for a crazy night out if you are near Haeundae. (Also the dancers…….)

IMG_0294IMG_0291IMG_0290

When we came back to our hotel room we were too excited to go to bed immedaitely… so that called for a mini photoshoot and dance party

IMG_0323IMG_0315

That ended our last day in Paradise – yet another bucket list for my 20s checked off ♥! My quench for Busan was definitely satisfied but I know I will be back very very soon.

Besos, la ciudad dulce de Busan!

Where have you been this summer? let me know!

Golden Paradise – Busan Part I

Golden Paradise – Busan Part I

‘I have to go to Busan’

Maybe it was the fact that my father (aka favorite person in the world) was born in Busan or maybe it was just the remnants of my precious childhood memories of summer weekends in Haeundae with wind brushing against my wet hair and ice and the smell and sound of the ocean that made my heart burst.

Whatever the reason, I had to go. I convinced my two bestfriends this summer to join me in a randezvous to the beautiful coastal city of Korean, Busan and we planned this trip for months until last weekend, we finally embarked on adventure.

Join us!

We jumped on a 8am train departing from Seoul Station …

IMG_9802IMG_9835IMG_9803

After the train ride, despite being tired and worn out by the 33 degrees heat we  headed strait to Haeundae. If you’re ever visiting Busan, you have to go to this part of the city. It might not be the cleanest area in Busan but it is definitely the symbolic area that everyone congregates in.

We grabbed the famous mil-myeon(cold noodle mixed with a spicy paste ) from Kaya Milmyeon (가야밀면) Don’t underestimate the dish based on its simplicity, once you take a bite you won’t be able to stop. We ordered a side of dumplings which was honestly one of the best dumplings I have had in Korea.

IMG_9872IMG_9871

With the blazing sun shining over our heads, we escaped from the suffocating heat into the shining ocean.

IMG_9877

IMG_0320IMG_0321IMG_0322

IMG_0015

After our day at the beach, we realised that we haven’t had a proper meal yet and what better to eat fresh sashimi than Busan? We opted for Mul-hwae (물회), a fresh mixture of sashimi, vegetables, spices and asian pear. It went perfectly with korean soju – definitely one of the best combos.

IMG_0019IMG_0020IMG_0021

With our hearts and bellies full, we decided to try out a bar that my dad personally recommended. I wasn’t expecting much to be honest, but it turned out to be an absolute heaven! Port 1902 is a bar/lounge/bakery/cafe at the end of Songjung Beach – it’s classy, sophisticated and their food and drink are impeccable!

This tiramisu was the highlight of the night

The night ended with the three of us singing happily on our way back to our hotel… It was an unforgettable night and although our bodies were tired from hours of walking, swimming and getting lost in a new city, we all agreed that it was a night that we will remember forever.
